The Main Difference: The MLB doesn't claim the right--regardless of who wins the game--to control your life, steal your money, and put you in prison/shoot you if you don't obey.
Similarities include:
- Teams battle tooth and nail, but ultimately work for the same organization
- Engenders fierce rivalry among spectators based on not much more than where someone grew up or what they're favorite color is
- Provides a fabulous living for those playing the game
- Relies on the participation of millions of people in order to have any significance
